The three-year-old Reaan gelding is one of a bumper 34 nominations taken for this year’s edition of the $100,000 Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) open only to two and three-year-old runners.

Karlovasi has won four of his 16 starts to date including a Three-Years-Old Plate over 1200m at Morphettville on July 2.

Jolly has also nominated for his Dane Shadow filly Heartz Ablaze looking to atone for a last as the beaten favourite at the track on June 18 and flying two-year-old Time Out.

The young Snippetson gelding ran second three times on the trot in May – June before winning of the 1050m at Morphettville at the start of the month and returns to the track and distance for his stakes debut on Saturday.

Among the other last start winners nominated for this season’s Lighting Stakes are the Tony McEvoy-trained Choisir gelding Ascendance, Group 3 performed Beneteau filly from Victoria Ocean Embers who won over 1100m at Caulfield on July 2 and the undefeated David Jolly-trained Kaphero filly Showpero who has won her opening two starts at Morphettville Parks.

Another notable Melbourne visitor in the mix is the Robert Smerdon-trained Sebring filly Motown Lil, the two-year-old yet to break her maiden status from five runs.

Two back she ran second at Morphettville behind Modern Wonder in the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1050m) before a last start third behind Athena Lass in the wet at Moonee Valley on July 13.

Other interstate visitors include Paul Rocke’s Not A Single Doubt filly from Mornington Certain Ellie, the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained two-year-old daughter of More Than Ready Clockwork Orange, Clinton McDonald’s Exceed And Excel colt Danuki and the returning Darren Weir-trained Snitzel filly Cool Snitzel prepared at Ballarat.

Cool Snitzel has had one start for one win at Morphettville and is three-from-three over the 1050m distance of Saturday’s short-distance clash.

Also in good form are the likes of John Hickmott’s Red Arrow colt Arrow Lane and John McArdle’s Hard Spun gelding Power Trip.

The Mornington-trained Power Trip ran a brave fourth behind Extreme Choice in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield back in late February, the two-year-old a Group 3 winner down the Flemington straight last Melbourne Cup Carnival.

His latest run was a sixth to Seaburge in Flemington’s Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on March 12, the young gun coming off a winning Cranbourne barrier trial over 760m from earlier this month.

See below for the full Adelaide Lightning Stakes 2016 nominations, the final field and barriers set for release on Wednesday.
